Job Description:
The Designer will be responsible for generating shop and production drawings using 2D and 3D software, along with creating Bills of Materials (BOMs) and CNC programs for steel fabrication projects. This role will involve mentoring under the Lead Designer to gain expertise in creating and implementing offline programming.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison between maintenance, production, operations, and facilities to ensure drawing accuracy.
- Create shop drawings following good manufacturing practices.
- Generate the list of steel plates and shapes needed for barge construction.
- Proficient in using AutoCAD and Inventor software, as well as Excel and MS Word.
- Resolve issues while maintaining schedules, minimizing disruptions, and reducing cost impacts.
- Maintain open communication with contractors, clients, shop personnel, and inspectors.
- Translate customer inquiries into positive solutions through effective listening and problem-solving skills.
- Schedule tasks effectively and manage subordinates’ schedules to ensure smooth workflow.
- Provide accurate and timely information to both internal and external customers.
- Foster proactive communication that reduces rework and scrap.
- Create and maintain plasma table nests using ProNest software for all designs.
- Mentor under the Lead Designer to learn:
- Creating offline robotics programs in 3D software.
- Verifying offline programming with real-world assemblies (e.g., run-offs).
- Assisting with the analysis of robotic failures (programming, operator, or maintenance issues).

- The work environment is a heavy industrial site.
- Exposure to outdoor elements, including extreme weather conditions (heat and cold).
- Potential exposure to dust, chemicals, and other airborne particles.

- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including steel-toed/metatarsal boots, earplugs/earmuffs, safety glasses, pants, and hard hats.

Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred, with 5 years of experience; 10 years of structural steel design experience if no degree.
- Previous experience in a heavy industrial or construction environment is preferred.
- Autodesk Inventor experience is required.
